Welcome to Week 3 - Sat 15th Oct
Welcome to Week 3 at Mornington Little Athletics for this Saturday 15th October. A big thank you to all the parents and volunteers that have stepped in with Age Group manager duties. We are still short for a few Age Groups (Under 6s and Open Age group) so would appreciate if some more parents can nominate for these groups please. We also need more assistance with BBQ duties so please help out if you are on the roster this week. We also have a revised Program for Week 3 so please ensure you check the latest program and duties on our Website.

For the first half of this season, will be sharing our track and competition with Frankston Little Athletics Centre (FLAC) whilst their home track is being re-surfaced. We are grateful to have FLAC on board with us and know that their Committee, Members and families are also keen to ensure a wonderful experience for all members and families.
We also anticipate there will be some challenges due to larger groups and little athletes participating. Both MLAC and FLAC committees are working in unison to ensure all families and little aths have a great experience. We do ask for your understanding and extra patience during this time as we settle into the new season.
Week 3 Revised Program
Please note that we move into 5 events for this week's program and moving forward. We will kick off every Saturday at 8.45am with a short warm-up and all Age Groups will meet at their first scheduled event at 9:00am. Each week the program will rotate to make sure that children experience and practice different events. This week, it will move to 5 events each week which usually consist on one throwing event (shot put or discus), one jumping (long, triple jump or high jump) and two to three running events. The weekly program will be posted on our website as well as our facebook page each week.
Please note that we have revised Week 3 Program with the introduction of Under 13 Girls and Under 13 Boys age groups. The full season program including a schedule of open days and twilight meets for MLAC is available on our MLAC Website.
The weekly program is available for download below. Please note this Program may change based on weather and track conditions for the safety of our participants, parents, volunteers and officials.
The full season program including a schedule of open days and twilight meets for MLAC is available on our MLAC Website.
Wet Weather Policy
At Mornington Civic Reserve, we are lucky to have an 'all weather' track which means that rainy or wet conditions do not necessarily stop a competition day from going ahead.
However, the safety and well-being of our children, parents, families, volunteers and officials is always our first priority, particularly considering the impact of weather on scheduled events.
The MLAC Committee will assess the track and equipment conditions in the morning of the event of adverse weather conditions and we may modify and/or cancel the event. If the competition event is cancelled, we will post on our Facebook page and send an email to our members and trial athlete families.
On Track Program for U6-U7 Athletes
Our Under 6 and Under 7 athletes will complete the On Track program for the first 4 weeks. The program consists of a range of fundamental activities for children to learn some of the basics in athletics technique development. This is a fun opportunity for children to be immersed into the various events.
Parent assistance is vital to ensure the running of this program. It's a great way to share in the enjoyment of your children being involved. Also, please note that we usually conduct the On Track program in the Soccer fields adjacent to the Civic Reserve Track. We will confirm the location on Saturday morning so appreciate your patience.

Training Update
Unfortunately, we had to cancel our first training session this week due to the rain. Our training sessions will be run by fully qualified coaches each Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 6:00pm. The next training session will be held on Wed 19th October at 5:00pm. Bookings will be required as we are restricted to maximum group sizes. We encourage parents to book for each training session on our Website.
Seniors Training
This season, our Athletes have the opportunity to participate in Mornington Peninsula Athletics training with the Senior Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to train with world class coaches and build up your athletics skills and performance. This training is available for registered Mornington Little Athletes in Under 13 and above age groups. For more training days, times and more information please visit the MPAC Website or contact MPAC Coaches via email.
Safety on the Track
The safety and well-being of our Little athletes, families and officials is always a priority for MLAC. With large numbers of families and new athletes, it is important to follow the advice and direction from Age Group Managers and MLAC officials.
Please take extra care when crossing the track with your children - there are often multiple races going on at the same time so ensure you check the track before you cross. Also, please be aware if crossing the centre field as we have discus and javelin events in progress.
Each age group has a volunteer Age Group Manager who will support taking children from event to event. It is a requirement that all parents remain at the track for the duration of your child's competition and to supervise your child for the duration of the morning.
Parent involvement and Duties
To ensure that Saturday mornings start and finish on time as well as run smoothly for our children age groups will be rostered on to help with one of the following duties - track set up, BBQ or track pack up. Please support the club and your child's participation by booking and attending when your child's age group is rostered on.
Duties for this Saturday 15th October 22 are as follows:
Track Set Up: from 07:30 - 08:30 UNDER 11 GIRLS & UNDER 8 BOYS
BBQ Duties: from 09:00 to 12:00pm UNDER 10 BOYS & UNDER 11 BOYS
Track Pack Up: from 12:00 - 12:30 OPEN GIRLS & UNDER 9 GIRLS
As well as the duty roster, over the course of the morning your Age Group Manager will require help with recording scores, measuring throws or jumps.
Age Group Managers
Thank you to those families that have volunteered to be an Age Group Manager for this season. We are still looking for Age Group Managers for a number of Age Groups which we will hopefully resolve this Saturday. If you can assist with AGM duties or would like further information about what is involved, please contact us at mornington@lavic.com.au
